Community Easter Egg Hunt
Each year, the Children’s Ministry sponsors an Easter egg hunt in the field across the street from the church. The hunt begins at 9:00 and children are divided by age groups. The community is invited to attend. You will want to bring a camera to capture the moment as your children gather eggs. Every year, the Easter bunny makes an appearance to pose for pictures with the children.
Senior Recognition Sunday
Join us in worship at the 10:30 service on April 27tha as we celebrate our graduating High School Seniors. Each year we recognize graduating members with a presentation of Bibles, a slide show and a meal. Many of the graduates have been lifelong members of FUMC Gatesville. Be present on that Sunday as we wish them well in whatever direction they go as young adults.
Parents Night Out April 5
The youth will provide baby sitting service at the church for a Parent’s Night Out on Saturday, April 5 from 6 -11 p.m. A meal, snacks and activities will be provided. It is best for children ages 4-12. There is no set fee. Donations to the Youth Fund will be accepted. Call the office to reserve a spot for your child and plan an adult night out.
Confirmation Sunday April 13
Ten young people will complete their confirmation training this month. They will be recognized by the church on April 13, which is also Palm Sunday. Come celebrate with these young people as they profess their faith in Christ and become members of the church. It will be doubly special for some of them as they will also be baptized that day.
First United Methodist Church of Gatesville has many wonderful opportunities for worship and prayer throughout the week leading to Easter (called, Holy Week). Holy Week begins with worship on Palm Sunday (April 13th), the week before Easter, where we shout, "Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" This week prepares us for Easter and takes us through the last few days of Jesus' life on earth to the resurrection!
Holy Week begins with our Palm Sunday worship services at 8:30am and 10:30am. The children will have already participated in an Easter Egg hunt on the day before (April 12, 9:00 a.m.). Once again we will conduct silent Maundy Thursday services at noon and 6:00 p.m. You will be given a guide for scripture, prayer and meditation. You will come forward to receive communion at your convenience. On Good Friday, we will remember the crucifixion of Jesus at a Tennebrae Service conducted at 6:30. Tennebrae is the time we slip into the shadows as we remember the darkest moment in the history of the world. On Easter Sunday morning, all members are encouraged to take part in the community Easter Sunrise Service under the three giant crosses next to Coryell Community Church. The service is sponsored by the Gatesville Ministerial Association and includes leadership from a number of local churches. We will have a two worship services in the Sanctuary at 8:30am and 10:30
New Small groups, called Life Groups are being organized at the present time. A Life Group is a group of people that meet in homes for a meal, fellowship and a study that is usually, but not necessarily biblically based. Already, enough people have expressed an interest to form two Life Groups. If you are interested in joining one of these or forming one of your own call the church office at 865-2520
Church Wide Family Day
Join us on Palm Sunday after the last worship service for food and fun. Weather permitting, we will meet in the field next to the church for a covered dish picnic and activities for any who want to participate. Kites will be available for the kids. Bring a lawn chair, a covered dish and a hearty appetite for an enjoyable afternoon. In the event of inclement weather, we will move into the Family Life Center.
